Housing Crisis

We went through our own little housing crisis this past week. As you may know, we had an offer accepted on our dream house about 6 weeks ago and we were over the moon about it. We couldn't believe that the house we had our eye for months basically fell into our laps! It was a lucky break for sure, but as escrow came to a close, the luck ran out. The mortgage company we were dealing with (uh-uhm Prospect Mortgage) took FOREVER to get anything done and kept our file in underwriting for over a month. Unfortunately, when mortgage companies take their sweet time and disregard closing dates, the buyer is the one to be screwed. The house fell out of escrow and we are back to the drawing board. Losing a house that you LOVE is a little like losing a person... the five stages of grief are all there. First, there's denial which entails scathing emails and phone calls to the mortgage company demanding they do something and considering re-offering, requalifying, extending escrow, begging, pleading, and protesting... anything not to lose the house (which has in fact already happened). Then there's anger. "We are good people who did everything right and work hard and we deserve that house!" After those flames die down, the bargaining begins which, in the end, is pointless. Failed bargaining attempts lead to sadness, which ultimately stems from the fact that all of our energy for the past 60 days has gone in to buying that house. I am happy to report that we have successfully and finally reached the acceptance phase and are ready to move on. We are looking and offering again and it feels kind of good to start from scratch. We know our perfect house will come along and when it does, we will snag it. Until then, we have each other and that's really all we need to truly be home. ♥
